We've had this house on our website for years and it's always been one of my favourites. The house is really cosy and comfortable, the kitchen is a really good size and I absolutely love the original tiled floor upstairs. The garden is really lovely and I especially love that the lounge overlooks the swimming pool. Poilhes itself is a really nice village and I've spent many an evening in the Les Platanes restaurant a couple of minutes walk away. Just the perfect place for a cosy holiday.

Don’t just take my word for it … see what our guests thought.

About Maison Enserune

There's a reason that Maison Enserune has remained one of our favourite and most popular villas for years - it's a fantastic 4 bedroom family villa located along the Canal du Midi, within walking distance to a local shop and a couple of great restaurants. The house is very well equipped to suit your every need, thanks to the air conditioning, UK Satellite TV and fast WiFi. Poilhes is a sleepy and authentic French village that provides the ultimate spot for a relaxing holiday.

The house has been renovated, but it has retained many of its original features, such as the beamed ceilings and traditional floor tiles. The overall decor of the house is traditional with a modern twist and feels like a real Mediterranean gem, making it a delightful place to spend your holiday.

As you enter the property you'll notice the modern and fully equipped kitchen - it boasts a large fridge/freezer, wine fridge, gas hob, oven, dishwasher and lots of workspaces, making it an ideal place to cook a delicious meal with the local ingredients you'll find at the small local shop. Next to the kitchen is a separate WC. The wood-beamed open-plan living/dining area is superb - the lounge is comfortable and boasts a fireplace and French and UK Satellite TV, as well as a small library of books. The dining table seats up to 8 people. This area has French doors that open onto the pool terrace and outdoor dining area.

Across from the kitchen is a second sitting room that's set up with a 40" TV with a PlayStation 3, PS3 games and French TV. Stairs lead up to a twin bedroom that has air conditioning.

On the first floor, you'll find 3 air-conditioned bedrooms and a family bathroom. The Master suite has a double bed, a dressing room with a baby travel cot and an en-suite bathroom with a shower, WC and basin. There is another double bedroom across the hall and a further twin bedroom next to that. The family bathroom is at the end of the hall and has a bath/shower, a WC and a basin. There are hairdryers in both bathrooms.

Outside is where the magic happens! The private swimming pool is 7m x 5.5m x 2.1m and has a saltwater chlorination system, which is an automated chlorine and PH system that uses very low chlorine levels - this is essential for allergy sufferers and is sure to leave your hair silky soft. The depth of the swimming pool is from 3 feet to 7 feet 6 inches.

There is a South-facing terrace, a BBQ area, garden furniture, a shaded eating area and sun loungers, making it the perfect area to enjoy your holiday reads and a cocktail or two.

Location and Map

Poilhes is a charming and sleepy village located on the Canal du Midi, in the Languedoc region of Southern France. It’s a peaceful place that has a lot to offer people who are looking for an authentic experience in the region - surrounded by vineyards, Poilhes is a beautiful spot to holiday.

The village has a couple of fantastic restaurants, our favourite being Les Platanes which is on the little village square - their menu is varied and delicious and the owners are lovely people from New Zealand who will be happy to host you. There is a local shop which sells basic items and a larger supermarket is only a few minutes away by car, in Capestang. There are tennis courts if you’re looking for a fun afternoon activity, as well as plenty of grassy spots along the Canal to have a picnic.

The bustling town of Béziers is about 20 minutes away by car and is a fantastic place for a day (or night!) out. There are countless restaurants and bars with gorgeous terraces in the sun, as well as plenty of beautiful independent artisanal shops in the maze of cobble-stoned roads that make up the historical centre. The cathedral (and the view that come with it) is a must-see. There are events and festivals that are all a lot of fun throughout the summer - be sure to check out the Allées Paul Riquet every Thursday night for a wine tasting, the cathedral for the nightly Sons et Lumières show and, of course, the various markets throughout the week.

Another fantastic spot that we recommend visiting is Pézenas - it’s about 40km away from Poilhes but is well-worth the drive. It’s a very beautiful town that’s famous for its cobble-stoned streets and arty independent shops. The Saturday market is a must-visit as they sell absolutely everything from local honey and wine, to beautiful Bohemian clothing and modern gadgets. Don’t forget to pick up a wonderful woven basket bag or a hand-made ceramic bowl to pop your local olives in.

You can’t visit the South of France without also visiting the beaches - the coast is 20km away and there are plenty of beaches to choose from. Valras, Narbonne, Vias, and Agde are all great choices if you’re looking for activities, adventure, busy bars, restaurants, and entertainment. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, then Sérignan or Vendres is for you. There are many more beaches in the area, too many to mention, so have a little exploration and you’ll find the perfect one for you.

Finally, if you’re looking for adventure, then head to the mountains, more specifically, Roquebrun and its surrounding. There’s river swimming, kayaking, mountain climbing, BMXing, hiking, and paddle boarding opportunities. Beautiful villages to visit include Roquebrun, Cessenon-sur-Orb, Vieussan, Saint Chinian and Olargues.

owner profile

Earth, Water and Fire
Or more precisely, rocks, sea and sun. These are the elements that persuaded my wife and I to buy our lovely house in Poilhes. Julia is a geologist and we are both mad about watersports so there is more than enough to keep us busy when we come down to Herault. The Languedoc is home to some of the most fascinating geological sites in the northern hemisphere, with ancient volcanoes at Cap d’Agde and the Montagnes Noires being all that now remain of a massive chain of mountains that were once comparable to the Himalayas.

This is a spacious, airy house with a good-sized pool, Sky TV, WiFi, decent furnishings and a good kitchen; these all go to make this a great place to spend one's holiday. Poilhes offers some excellent bars and restaurants and the growing tourist trade in the local area has encouraged restaurateurs to be more adventurous in their choice of cuisine and ambiance.

We shall continue to enjoy the delights of this amazing corner of France and we welcome you to do so too.

Customer Reviews

  • Sue P. | August, 2023

Great villa. It would have been very much appreciated if a welcome basket had been at the villa as other companies we have been with before have had this as we arrived late. There were a few issues with the villa which were quickly dealt with. A contact with the local agent would have been great.

  • Isabelle P. | July, 2022

    We had a wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay at Maisonette Enserune. The house was great, very clean and comfortable and good facilities. The pool was perfect and the air conditioning in the bedrooms was a definite plus. The area was lovely and peaceful but plenty to do and see both nearby and further away.

  • Paula J. | July, 2022

Character property in a sleepy town

Absolutely beautiful area, quiet with slow pace of life. We really enjoyed the pool and everything the house had to offer. Left feeling relaxed and content.

  • Paul T. | June, 2022

We had a great time as a family.

We had a great time as a family. Pool is a nice size and A/C in the bedrooms was highly appreciated. The village is really nice, three great restaurants in walking distance and the local town a short drive away. The whole process was very easy and we will for sure look to book again in the future.
