Les Vallonières - AIX103

Prices from £7,500 - £7,500

Guests: 12   Bedrooms: 6

6 bedroom Villa located near Aix en Provence. Stunning views stretching to Mont St. Victoire and beyond for 50 kms. The major advantage of its position is that even in high summer it benefits from light breezes but never suffers fully from the infamous "Mistral" winds.

About Les Vallonières

The house was built many years ago on the ruins of an ancient hamlet. It is built entirely of stone in the traditional Provencal style but enjoys the benefits of huge terraced areas as well as a large pool 14.5m x 6m with 1m depth in the shallow end. There is a shady poolhouse with summer kitchen and shower room.

The house stands alone and backs onto acres of private woodland, one can literally step off the terrace, then walk or cycle up into the hills for miles. Stunning views stretching to Mont St. Victoire and beyond for 50 kms. The major advantage of its position is that even in high summer it benefits from light breezes but never suffers fully from the infamous "Mistral" winds.

There are two levels of lawned gardens, the lower level is flanked by the pool at one end and a traditional boulodrome at the other. The upper level extends to the shady wooded area.

Ground floor:
Vast beamed sitting room with a large open fireplace and huge sofas, spacious dining room leading into the fully equipped kitchen with "range" cuisiniere, dishwasher, and just about everything you will possibly need. There is also a large gas BBQ on the terrace.

Virtually all the rooms benefit from large French windows which lead directly onto different levels of terracing. In addition Cloakroom/WC and Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Bedrooms:
There are 4 double and 2 twin bedrooms (bedroom 6 is in an independent apartment with own kitchen, bathroom and sitting room), 3 bathrooms ensuite (with baths) and 2 further shower rooms.

Location and Map

This marker is for indication purpose only

We have a number of excellent Michelin starred restaurants within a 10
minute drive: La Petite Maison in Cucuron, La Closerie in Ansouis and La
Feniere in Lourmarin, along with some other very good restaurants, be it
a relaxed brasserie to something more upmarket.
There are the lovely and very tempting local markets on Tuesday in
Cucuron and Friday in Lourmarin.
Our local general shop in Cucuron can provide a good range of food and
goods and is open on Sunday morning. There is also a baker and a butcher
in Cucuron. Pertuis, only 20 minutes away, has the much larger Hyper
super markets.
There are a number of beautiful golf courses in the area, including Pont
Royal and Luberon Golf.
One can cycle and walk direct from the house up into the Luberon hills.
Alternatively there is a stable down the road for a gentle meander on
horse back. Both road and mountain bikes can be hired from Pertuis (or
delivered to the house).
The beaches are approximately 1.15 minutes away, including the lovely
Cassis, St Croix, and Carry le Rouet.
For cultural excusions, Aix en Provence is only 30 minutes away and
Avignon just under an hour. There are of course numerous other places
to visit eg Les Baux, Gorges de Verdon, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Orange,
Arles etc etc.
Of course we mustn't forget the wine/vineyards! There are a few very
good vineyards in the area (we also supply wine to buy). Bandol and
Chateauneuf du Paper are just over an hour's drive and we can highly
recommend a few places to visit. We can also organise a minibus/driver
so that our guests don't even have to drive!
Dogs may be allowed BUT by prior arrangement only.

Walking/cycling/mountain biking

Both houses are situated in open countryside and one can literally walk or cycle from the front door. There are extensive walking and cycling trails both in the Luberon National Park and nearer Aix around Mont St Victoire. Local maps are available at each property. Bicycles and mountain bikes can be booked in advance. www.provencetourism.com

Tennis

Both properties are 5 minutes away from good quality local tennis courts which are inexpensive and can be booked in advance. Should you require professional coaching: www.setclub.com

Horse-riding

Both at the Set Club as listed above (closer to Ferme du Val) or alternatively Chevaliers du Luberon close to Les Vallons. www.leluberon.com

Swimming

Both houses have excellent pools, however there are good swimming beaches around Cassis and La Ciotat, about an hour's drive South.
Spas/Health/Beauty

If the sun gets too much for you, there are two fabulous pampering spas.

Most guests don't tend to venture too far from the houses however there's a wealth of places to visit in the area if you feel so inclined. These include to the South: Marseille, the Port of Cassis, Calanques de Marseille, Cote Littoral and Les Iles de Porquerolles and to the North: Avignon, Mont Ventoux, Les Alpilles, Chateaux du Luberon, hilltop villages such as Bonnieux and Lacoste.

Also worthy of mention, are the famous Aix and Avignon festivals, details can be found on the websites. www.provenceguide.com

For fabulous fresh produce, we strongly recommend you do as the locals do and make the most of the daily markets - les "marches paysans". They are also a great place to find gorgeous linens, pottery, spices and of course the local lavender products. Word of warning - everything shuts down around noon. However, fantastic produce can also be sourced from the local supermarkets. www.provence-des-papes.com

Both Aix and Avignon have an excellent array of shops and boutiques. www.provenceweb.fr

There are just too many to mention - a detailed list of restaurants is available in both properties. Please feel free to contact us if you would like us to book a restaurant in advance for a special occasion.

This area is renowned for its excellent golf courses, they have great restaurants too, it's quite normal to squeeze in a two hour lunch after the first nine...! We have special relationships with many clubs in the area but do recommend that bookings be made well in advance in high season. Sets of clubs are available for hire at the golf courses.

This is why we're here! (apart from the cuisine and the weather...) There are umpteen wine producing estates in the area, the two local appellations are Cotes du Luberon and Coteaux d'Aix en Provence. However, within an hour's drive one can visit fantastic domains in Chateauneuf du Pape and the Northern Rhone or alternatively the undiscovered gems of Bandol and Cassis to the South. We often organise wine tours for clients.

Furthermore we are very lucky to have close ties with John Arnold of A & B Vintners who is one of the leading UK merchants dealing in the South of France. Through them we can source fabulous wines that are not freely available and guarantee delivery ahead of your stay. Feel free to discuss your needs with John via the link.
