Le Mas La Couloumine - The Cottage

Despite being a haven of peace and tranquillity the mas is far from isolated. Getting to Ille-Sur-Tet the nearest village, with banks, shops, bars and a supermarket is just a 5 minute drive. The bustling centre of Perpignan is only a further 20 minutes away, the Mediterranean beaches can be reached in around 30 minutes and the Pyrénées mountains some 40 minutes away.

Coast/Beach
The house is between 20 and 40 minutes comfortable drive from a wide range of beaches along the Mediterrean coast. Choose between long sandy stretches of beach such as Argeles, St Cyprien and Canet Plage or quieter, smaller beaches, such as Le Racou and Collioure. A little further is the fantastic natural reserve of Banyuls sur Mer which offers fantastic snorkelling and scuba diving experiences.

Golf
There are several very good golf courses a short drive from the house. The French course at St Cyprien is just half an hour's drive and the 18-hole championship course (par 70 at 5177 metres) at the beautiful Spanish Spa of 'Domaine de Falgos', is an absolute 'must see' just over the border and under an hour's drive from the house. There are other excellent Catalunyan courses to be found at Torremirona and Peralada (an area which incidentally also just happens to produce some really excellent wines to be sampled while you're there).

Special interest holidays
The 'Mas' is situated in an area of Languedoc Roussillon which makes it an ideal centre for art groups or painting holidays. The picturesque vineyards, rocky coastal coves and snow-covered mountains provide endless creative inspiration for small accompanied trips, aswell as beautiful places in which to sketch or just soak up the artistic history and organic Catalan flavour:the old fishing port of Collioure, made famous by the Impressionist french painters, such as Matisse, the picturesque Spanish fishing Port Leucate, at Cadaquez,was home to Salvador Dali, the Dali Museum in Figueres and Ceret Museum of Modern Art, founded by Pablo Picasso and many fascinating galleries to be found in Perpignan.

Travel
To get to us you have the choice of 5 airports, all served by UK budget airlines. Perpignan airport is closest, just 20 minutes drive door to door from the house (Ryanair, FlyBE and BMi). Second closets is the easy 65 minute drive to Girona Costa Brava in Spain (Ryanair). Toulouse, Montpellier and Carcasonne Airports are also well serviced by the budget airlines.

Distances
Thuir is a beautiful medieval market town, just 10 minutes drive from the house. The breathtaking fortified medieval town of Castenou is just 5 minutes drive away. Cathar fortresses and monasteries, gorges and canyons, archeological sites such as Tautavel and areas of outstanding natural beauty, such as the sandstone cliffs (Les Orgues) at Ille sur Têt are all between 10 and 20 minutes drive away. Perpignan, with its art,music and folk festivals throughout the summer months, is a 25 mins drive.

Le Mas La Couloumine is an ancient stone-built Catalan farmhouse. There are two 2-bedroom gites available. The Cottage (THU102) and La Petite Villa (THU103)

The cottage has electric wall mounted radiators each boast a wood burning stove with fuel supplied in the winter months.

Upright fridge/freezer; automatic washing machine, dishwasher; electric oven with gas burners, microwave and wood burning stove.
Appliances include kettle, toaster, cafetière etc.

Ground floor - salon 18m2 furnished as follows:
2 sofas & 1 double sofa bed, coffee table, TV, freeview satellite channels and DVD player, hi-fi and electric wall mounted heater.

1st floor - bedroom 14m2 furnished as follows: 2 single beds, bedside lamps, 2 wardrobes with drawers.

1st floor - bathroom 5m2
WC, pedestal wash basin, shower cubicle 90cm x 140cm, electric rail towel heater.

1st floor - bedroom 14.5m2 furnished as follows:
1 large double bed, bedside lamps, in built wardrobe with shelves.

9m x 4.5m above ground wooden swimming pool for cooling off in the hot summer days!

A dedicated parking place is provided which is suitable for a large family car or 4x4.

Lawned communal garden (shared with the other 2 bedroom gite) with established flower beds and large oak tree.

Private Terrace (70m2). BBQ with outdoor dining table. Outdoor furniture.

The terrace area has wood panel fencing 1.8m high to offer complete privacy.

Surrounded by peach orchards sitting within the heart of the plain of Roussillon, the mas has wonderful views in all directions. To the north the peak of the Forca Real and the Corbières can be seen and to the south and west rise the chateau of Corbere looks down on us as well as the Canigou Mountain.
