LOCATION:

The house is in a pretty network of old streets in the village of Colombiers which nestles in a curve in the Canal du Midi.

All amenities are within walking distance such as bakeries, butchers, a small supermarket, several café-bars and restaurants, a pizzeria, newsagents, chemist, bank, post office, local wine outlets, and a tourist office. There is a large supermarket only 5 minutes drive away.

The Canal du Midi is now a World Heritage Site and it is the Canal that makes Colombiers special with a mix of boats passing through constantly. The bridge is photogenic and the walks are shaded and pleasant as the weather heats up. You can hire boats from the port area and there is also an 'Amphitheatre' where free musical/theatrical/shows/fireworks regularly take place throughout the summer.

Spain, Andorra and the Pyrenees are within easy reach and the area is surrounded with the vineyards of the Hérault.

Budget airlines fly regularly to Beziers, Montpellier, Perpignan and Carcassonne, all within 50 miles. The TGV goes to Béziers and Eurostar operates a non-stop service from Waterloo to Avignon in high season.

DESCRIPTION:

The house was built in several parts, the oldest dating back to the late 18th Century with additions in the late 19th century and was fully renovated in 2001. The village is a maze of little streets, some with very attractive outlooks onto the Canal du Midi and over vineyards.

You enter through the garage which has been converted into an indoor patio and utility area, turning left through another door then either going up the stairs to the living/dining/kitchen area or right along the corridor to the downstairs shower room with WC and handbasin, double bedroom and storeroom where you will find a large wardrobe, ironing board, vacuum cleaner, cleaning materials and steps.

At the top of the stairs on a small landing there is a fridge and a microwave.

There is also access to a washroom with a WC and washbasin.

The landing leads through into a combined living/dining and kitchen area with French windows opening onto a balcony.

The sofa and armchairs seat four people comfortably while 5 can sit round the dining table.

A door at the back of the room leads into a comfortably sized main bedroom with two single beds a small single bedroom with a full size single bed and a wardrobe leads off from the main bedroom.

OUTSIDE:

A balcony overlooks the street and catches the sun for a large part of the day – an ideal place to sit and watch the comings and goings in a typical French village.
